MediShield™ Superhydrophobic and Superhydrophilic Coatings

MediShield™ Superhydrophobic Coatings

The super-hydrophobic surface is inspired by the lotus leaf in nature, where a water contact angle of over 150 degree is observed. Water forms droplets on a super-hydrophobic surface and rolls off easily when it is tilted. Super-hydrophobic surface has the self-cleaning effect and has been shown to have the ability to reduce bacterial adhesion.

Medical Surface has developed a biocompatible super-hydrophobic / oleophobic coating technology that can be used to coat medical devices. The coated surfaces not only expel water, but also expel oil. The coated surfaces have high water and hexadecane contact angle and low water and hexadecane sliding angle:

MediShield™ Superhydrophilic Coatings

The super-hydrophilic surface has a water contact angle close to 0 degree. It is easily wetted by water and it enables oil spots to be swept away easily with water. Super-hydrophilic surface has also been shown to have the ability to reduce bacterial adhesion.

Medical Surface has developed a biocompatible super-hydrophilic coating technology that can be used to coat medical devices, where a clean surface that resists bacterial adhesion is desired. The super-hydrophilic surfaces have self-cleaning effects that can keep bacteria off the surface.
